| "V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation (FGM) and sexual slavery.
Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of “The Vagina Monologues” to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities. In 2008, over 3700 V-Day benefit events are taking place, produced by volunteer activists in the U.S. and around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls." -http://www.vday.org/main.html
V-Day events occur from January through March of each year. I highly encourage you to see a show if you get a chance - it's a different experience every time, and the events support causes that benefit women and children. The website has a handy search tool to find events near you. Go look now!
| So there was supposed to be this whole V-Day update, with serious musings and such, wrapped up by my annual mixtape...but then there were speeches to give, tests to take, work, et cetera. I have gotten a little caught up,the 2008 V-day Mixtape follows, with serious musings to come in a later post:
1. Love Song – Sara Barellis 2. You Know I’m No Good – Amy Winehouse 3. Conquest – White Stripes 4. Apologize – One Republic w/Timbaland 5. Sorry – Buck Cherry 6. Over You – Chris Daughtry 7. Criminal – Fiona Apple 8. Who Knew – Pink 9. Wake Up Call – Maroon 5 10. Smile - Lily Allen 11. Bottle it Up – Sara Barellies 12. Before He Cheats – Carrie Underwood
Lots of stuff from just this past year - is that telling?

| I got into both Anatomy and Microbiology, miracle of miracles! That eases my mind considerably as to being able to complete all my prereqs before this Fall. However, this means I have two lab classes in one day - I'm on campus from 11am-10pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Oof. And my work availability got slightly skewed, they got the times correct (I haven't been scheduled during a class), but got the number of hours wrong. So, anytime I wasn't in class, I was at work. Guh. I've gotten it straightened out now, though, and got a couple of my already scheduled shifts taken, so I should be a little less prone to throw myself off a bridge. It also helps that the TEAS exam I was scheduled to take this weekend was cancelled, leaving me time to study for my first Micro exam, today (I know! Crazy!). Yesterday was the first day in two weeks I didn't have to be in class or at work (or both), and I studied my butt off - I got a 99! Holy crap! Please, please, please, let this be a trend.
Anatomy exam Monday...I'll have some time to breathe about next Thursday or so. Harder, better, faster, stronger, right?
| I got to see Holly and Will get married this weekend! So many cool people were there, and it was an awesome time. Everything reflected the bride and groom and the way they interact with each other, which I think bodes well for the future.
School started this week - I had a late registration date, and both Anatomy and Microbiology were closed, so I had to "crash," which involves showing up the first day and hoping to get one of five or so open seats. (They purposely leave five open, and any more depend on any first day "no-shows"). There is a priority system involving how many classes you need to get into your program of choice and so on. No luck on the first Micro class I tried, as there were about 15 crashers. I was worried,as I had arranged my work schedule a specific way to accommodate specific sections. I took a look at the rest of the sections and decided to spend all yesterday crashing as many sections as possible, hoping to at least to get into one or the other science courses. (I am 'unavailable' for work on Monday/Wednesday) 8am Anatomy took our info and won't decide on crashers until next week, 8:30 Micro took six crashers, didn't get in, 11am Micro had 9 crashers and 9 seats (woo-hoo!), so we stayed for lecture and lab until 4. Then for the hell of it, crashed 5pm Anatomy. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. There were 32 crashers. 32! That is more than a whole section. (30 students) The professor is...interesting, kind of flighty and passive-agressive. Unlike other professors, he didn't make crashers give up their seats to registered students, which I think was a jab to show up early, even if you were guaranteed a seat :). He then lectured for two and a half hours, running into the lab - some people stood the whole time. Ugh. (I was a smug crasher, sitting down) I think he's trying to wear people down. He didn't even take information from people this class period, he doesn't want to deal with it until Monday - maybe he's hoping people give up between now and then. I'm not sure where I fall on the priority spectrum, but there are 11 seats open, so I am going to show up, with all my info. If I get in, it looks like it will be a packed semester (kind of like the time I took Physiology and Organic Chem together, only this time I need A's instead of C's in both). But it's not like the first time through undergrad, when I was busy being a college student, what with activites and such. After a 8am-10pm day of being on campus, I felt like I had oatmeal in my head.
The TEAS is next weekend! I thought it was the weekend after. Eep. I may take the one in March as well, we'll see what my score is this time around.
| I have become pretty lame since I got home, and I proved this by working until 11 on new year's eve, then coming home and reading in bed.
Ran up to Universal City last night to have dinner with Melissa, who was at home for the holidays. She is hugely preggs. I got to feel a baby elbow, it was wierd. Little Courtney Jean is now turned, and Meliss says she has a tendency to switch sides, regardless of organs squished. Realized that both Dehlia and Leslie C are up in the LA area, but I had to be back down here for a 10am appointment with a Navy recruiter.
Recruiter tried to tell me that enlistment was the best option for me, even with a Bachelor's of Science degree. Ummm...right. She must have caught on to my blank looks, because she then put me on the phone with an officer recruiter (apparently this is a completely different office). So, I have an appointment with the officer recruiter tomorrow, downtown.
I have been a little lonesome as of late, I miss the people who know me...and love me anyway. Current Location: Home
